  1. I am a fan of “The Two Towers.”   It was so dark and gloomy, yet through all that you saw courage emerge against amazing odds and then to come back and defeat the enemy, even when there was no hope.

  2. Well, Obviously the Fellowship of the Ring was by far the best. The movie achieves what the best fairy tales do: the creation of an
alternate world, plausible and persuasive, where the young — and not
only the young — can lose themselves. And perhaps, in identifying with
the little Hobbit that could, find their better selves. It’s what started the entire venture and introduced us to an entire new world. Now everything is “My Precious”.  :D

  3. The Two Towers might be my favorite. That film starts and ends with great Gandalf bookmarks…opening with his “death” battling the Balrog, and ending with his arrival to put the coda on the battle at Helm’s Deep. Great scenes. And of course, there’s always Gollum.

  4. The best one is the third one, The Return of the King.  Because I was in school in  Santa Barbara when it came out.  So some friends and I are waiting in line when none other the lead singer of Sound Garden, Chris Cornell, walks by to get in line.  So it was awesome knowing I watched the movie with a great musician.  Also the movie is the best one,  best fight scenes.

  5. Fellowship of the Ring was, by far the best… The movie itself was excellent, but combine that with the fact it was the FIRST movie, and the dear company I had while watching it puts it head and shoulders above all others. The audience makes a movie.

  6. Fellowship, it started a three year running tradition of catching the premieres at midnight, and the last one the entire trilogy all in one shot at Edwards. Awsome.

  7. I for one love the Fellowship of the Ring. After all the first ones are always the best. I like how the story plays out and explains everything. I rest my case

  8. The Two Towers has to be my favorite movie because trees were awesome in it! What other movie shows trees being so epic? They take down Saruman’s fort and kill retreating Uruk-hai at the end. Pure epicness!

  9. Lord of the Ring: Return of the Kings is my favorite. With the amazing scenery and epic fight battles the lord of the ring movies came to an amazing end the left me felling great and pleased with the ending

  10. I’m gonna have to go with The Fellowship of the Ring. The soundtrack is what makes it my favorite. I have so many good (albeit cheesy) memories of learning to play “Concering Hobbits” on the flute in high school band. Sigh. Good times.

  11. Honestly, I think The Fellowship of the Ring was my favorite, even though you have to see the rest to get out of the gloomy darkness you are left with in the end. I am not sure if it is because it has been out longest, making it more familiar or what, but I love the score, am most familiar with the score, I love the introduction to all the characters… the end just isn’t the same without the beginning, the light not as bright without the darkness… Now if only Tom Bombadil had made it in…

  12. Dude, Frodo looks seriously disturbed by that conductor.

And yeah, Return of the King is my fave. They threw the freakin’ ring into Mt. Doom and it had, like, 3 different endings! Can’t beat that! Also, it won all the Oscars, so that just backs up my claim right there. BAM. EVERYONE ELSE JUST GOT MOTED.

  13. I love the Fellowship of the Ring. It had the full cast and the special effects were top notch.  I mean I saw the film 10 times in the theater.

  14. I love them all. Fellowship is my favorite for many reasons. Because it does such an awesome job of setting up a very complex plot. Because it has the best storytelling of the trilogy. Because of the foreshadowing. Because of the Dark Riders, Because I know every single line of the script by heart.

  15. This trilogy is the best by far to ever come out and though it is darn near impossible to choose any of the three over the others I narrowly have to pick The Return of the King as my favorite. The events that finalize the trilogy, including the marriage between Aragorn and Arwen is so romantic and utter perfection. I hate sappy stuff but seeing the two together finally after a battle of the “species” and seeing happiness win is just awesome!

  16. Out of the three movies, I love The Fellowship of the Ring the most. It does an incredible job of creating Middle Earth and establishing what the whole adventure would be like. It left me with a sense of adventure that made me want to literally jump into the movie and join them!

  17. I was never into any fantasy type films until i was asked to see “The Fellowship of the ring” and i left feeling as if i was taking into a new dimension, or middle earth as referenced in the film.

I do find that this is my Favorite of the Triology only because it was the first, and it really engaged me throughout the entire movie. It just goes to show that you do not have to be a movie “Nerd” or someone into fantasy to enjoy a cinematic masterpiece.

The music is another thing that i enjoyed from all the movies, and it would be awesome to attend this concert. Maybe i can finally engage my inner hobbit and journey to middle earth on October 21st.

  18. I’ve always considered this one movie, just broken into three parts. But if I had to say which one I’d go with Return of the King. After waiting two years and experiencing everything the characters did, there was finally some closure. Plus I normally don’t applaud at the end of the movie, but this time I did I was so moved by everything that Peter Jackson did to bring this book to life.

Plus seeing the Rhorrimm ride down onto the Pelennor Fields was just bad ass and gives me goosebumps every time I hear the Hardanger fiddle (the main instrument in the Rohan theme). Hearing it live would just be bad ass.

  19. I liked The Fellowship of the Ring because it was the introduction to all the characters and followed the book very closely. All three movies followed the books closely, but the newness of Fellowship was what resonated with me.The only thing that could top Fellowship would be the upcoming Hobbit movie. I havent heard who is directing it, but I hope it is Peter Jackson.  He was able to bring out the true essence of each wonderful character. The first movie also introduced the wonderful score, which I feel really defined the movie. Just like the score to Harry Potter, each time we hear this score, we will always associate it with the Rings…I would love to experience the magic.

  20. the fellowship is my favorite because it’s the beginning of the trilogy, introduces sam, gandalf, & frodo. the intros are amazing and the extravagance of the Shire  is why i love the fellowship of the ring.

  21. I love Fellowship of the Ring because that is where everything begins. Without the background knowledge of the Hobbits and the Shire you would not truly understand why the Ring holds the power that it does.

    1. With exception to the fact that throughout the movies, Gandalf as a third person objective (3PO) reminds us repeatedly of the resilience, and good nature of Hobbits.

  22. Well the first one one of course. We got to see what the movie is going to very about and itg gave us three “W’s” we learn in school. The who, what, where, why and when……well ok there’s 5 but who’s perfect!

  23. My favorite Lord of the Rings was Two Towers. Initially, I was adamant about not ever seeing the Lord of the Rings films because I was a Harry Potter loyalist. After I watched the second film with my girlfriends one night, I fell in love. As much as I love the Harry Potter books, the Lord of the Rings films are beyond amazing. I love the music and the characters and every last minute of every movie.

And I ADORE gollum’s song. I really wish they could do just a straight orchestra performance of the songs of the movies.

  24. i am a fan of he two towers and like this fellowship of the ring as well.. Smeagle is quite a character.. all the music and characters were great..

  25. I would have to say the Fellowship of the Ring, it has the story of the friendship of Sam and Froddo and how it became so much more.  The chemistry between all the characters is very well played and makes it truly believeable that such friendships can exist and what people can and will do for eachother.  It wasn’t just about the ring but about good and evil.  The music made it so much more it gave it life in a way that makes you anticipate every scene.  I love the score and the breath it gives us.

  26. My wife and I enjoyed all three films, but Return of the King was easily the best. Here you have the culmination of a tide of events that scales on an epic level. As the adventurers journey draws to a close, it does not merely end with the arrival at Mordor. The defeat of the witch king at the hands of Eowyn, the enormous scale of battle between the armies of Man (and elves, etc) and the armies of Mordor; Aragorn’s command over the dead king, and the dead armies. The final scene where Golum bites the finger off of Frodo.

We’d waited our whole lives (since the cartoon version of Return of the King, cir. 1980) to see something amazing in cinematography. Peter Jackson raised the bar dramatically, for all epics that would follow.

  27. I also REALLY liked Return of the King. NEVER MIND the fact that it kicked the rear end of Pirates of the Caribbean (which was an awesome movie) at the awards, but how about the sheer beauty of the landscape? The reality of the effects,  the musical score — THE SCORE MADE THE MOVIE — just as Star Wars would not be Star Wars had it been to the music of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Between the score, and the setting they chose for Middle Earth, how about the Jackson’s ability for continuity? These weren’t sequels, these were individual epics that could have been stories in their own right… skillfully… masterfully, even, attached to the next tale, all from a book written by a genius of a writer. I don’t want to geek out too much, or raise my hopes that I’ll actually win this… but to hear the score live, as the scenes play, hello dream come true.

  28. Fellowship of the Ring has to be my favorite. In sixth grade I remember sitting in the back of the class and reading chapters and chapters ahead of the rest of my class when we were reading The Hobbit. The Fellowship of the Ring brought back my childhood memories of being lost in a world of fantasy. Also, another another extreme nerd level, I remember studying how the size of the props they used in the movie made the hobbits appear so small when in real life they of course are not that short. 7th grade math class at its finest.

  29. the best one was the return of the king. not just because it had the best story line but because it shows the final journey of frodo and his friends not just literaly but figuratively to. showing his final transition from being a young hobbit that focused close mindedly on his uncles stories to a grown man that understood the meaning of his life and and life all around him. his eyes were finaly opened to the world.

  30. Ok, first of all let me just say that all three movies are magnificent masterpieces on their own. That being said, I would have to say that the Return of the King has to take the crown. Not only is it cinematographic gold for the way that it gives you both a macro eagle-eye view of Middle Earth from the sky, in all it’s glory and a micro, attention to all the gory details good, bad and the ugly but it also, because of it’s pure EPICness makes the other two films better by bringing it all together. This movie shines so bright that it just inherently shines on the entire trilogy as a whole. The fight scenes, the relationships, the deeper meaning and hidden treasures make this one of my favorite movies of all time and do justice, in my opinion, to Tolkien’s legacy.

  31. My favorite was definitely The Two Towers. The Fellowship was beautiful and majestic(it comes in second), but I loved the intensity and gloominess of Two Towers. The movie made you feel as the characters would at that point in their journey. By far my favorite of the trilogy.

  32. My favorite of the three is The Fellowship but it happened completely by accident only because it’s both my husband & my son’s favorite of the 3- I came to love it because of them ;)  I love the story of friendship and the strong moral message- I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen it and yet I get sucked in
every single time I walk in the room and they’ve put it on. This is the movie that opened up my eyes to the world of fantasy and for that it’ll always hold a special place in my heart. Cheesy but true!
