Fresno Swede Fest 3 set for Saturday, May 9th

fresno-swede-fest_20091For all of you waiting for this day (all three of you), it’s finally here! Bust out your calender and pencil in Saturday, May 9th because that’s the day we all sit around as a community in a dark room again and watch Fresno’s best come through with some Swede goodness! The Fresno Swede Fest 3 is going down at Corridor 2122 at 6pm (a little later than usual, to get less light in the building) in beautiful downtown Fresno, this year’s 100%, totally FREE event will be….more of the same (we don’t like to rock the boat). But just as in the past, the Swede Festival would be nothing without your participation: WE NEED YOUR ENTRIES! New to this whole thing? Well check out this little explanation from the originators of the Swede phenomenon, Michel Gondry and the cast from the film Be Kind Rewind:

Keep in mind that your Swede need not be an entire film summed up but it can also be a trailer for a film, a single scene, a TV show commercial: the possibilities are almost endless so just turn on your creative machines and start brainstorming.  Feel free to check out some of the past entries over at our Vimeo group They Came From the Valley and if you need some tips, check out this list of tips I gave out over at Fresno Famous. So you got a pretty good idea of what it can be? Good! Now be sure to get as many of your friends, family, classmates or neighbors involved and that will only increase the fun factor! Here are some quick basic rules and remember that the event is all ages!

  • Entries must not be over 5 minutes in length.
  • Entries must not use any excessively abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-orientated language or any other material that may violate any laws.
  • Please mail all hard copy DVD (Region 1 format) entries to: Fresno Swede Festival, 3223 E. Normal, Fresno, CA 93703. Entries must be postmarked by Monday, May 1st. If you need to make arrangements to hand deliver your entry, please drop us an email at thedumbdrum@gmail.com and we can work on special arrangements. Also, please be sure to drop us an email to let us know that your entry is on it’s way when you send it off so we can keep an eye for it.
  • We will need a hard copy of your film on DVD to showcase from all entries by Monday, May 1st to show at the festival. Once we receive all the entries in, we will contact you to let you know if indeed your film will be showing.

And there you go, not too painful, right? Remember: this isn’t a competition so just get out there, create & showcase! And help us spread the word and get as many entries as possible! Have fun and if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments section of this post and we will answer them as quickly as possible or just email us directly at thedumbdrum@gmail.com. Now, head on after the break here to check out some of our previous entries and also head on over to The Beehive over here and check out their excellent recap of the last Swede Fest and this little recap from our first festival last year. Hope to see some new faces and entrants this time so get crackin’!

    1. Hey, I never said otherwise. But to be fair, I say you & Debbie have a competition to see who’s in the next Swede, perhaps involving mud, a kiddie pool & T-Shirts. Scandalous!

But SRSLY, you should get the family unit involved and make one! If you need help, you know where to go!
