So we’ve been excited for the Chevy Volt here for a while now and as we get closer & closer to actually seeing these things on the road, GM has been releasing more info on how the car will work, including this little instructional video on how exactly the car’s battery & recharging system work. So I know I won’t be in the market for a car for at least another 2 years (hopefully by then the second generation Volt will be out) but I’m interested in seeing how many people are seriously considering purchasing one of these when it drops later this year. I mean the Toyota Prius seems to be the favorite hybrid car right now and I wonder where those sales are going to be after the release of this car. I think the big question lies with the final price tag on this car. The rumors say anywhere between $35,000 to $45,000 but that’s before government tax incentives. So what do you think? Are you looking at picking one of these up or you holding out for jet packs? Comment away!
No.
Why not? I mean for a daily driver, the prospect of having to not pay for gas to putt around town is a very enticing offer.
$40K for a "daily driver"? My daily driver Accord gets 300 miles to the tank for less than $2k. The other $38K will fuel and maintain the car for another 30 years or so. Just $40K for a car is a NO.
I'd have to agree, price is too high for me.
How long is the battery supposed to last (how many charge cycles)?
I can't seem to find any hard info on that but I've asked the Chevy Volt Team (@ChevyVoltAge) on Twitter, lets see if they respond. I can't imagine the replacement of those batteries be very cheap.
I think the Prius' battery is guaranteed for 10 years, isn't it?
I would think that they would cover it under the warranty but not 100% sure how that's going to work. 10 years is quite a long time, though.
