Tarantino lists his top 20 films since becoming a filmmaker

I love when these kinda of proclamations are made by big names because it stirs up all types of debate among geeks like myself. Just watch the video and see what the man has to say for himself. Video to long for you? Then hit the jump where the list is all typed out and ready for you to absorb in one fell swoop.

So Tarantino’s #1 movie (and the only one he ranks as the rest are just presented alphabetically) is Battle Royale. For those of you who haven’t seen it, it’s one crazy movie which bears some resemblance to Lord Of The Flies in some ways… if William Golding was on crack and threw in a few guns in the mix. The film never officially made it over here initially but was widely available through unofficial channels. Now, you can get the film via Netflix is is pretty widely available. Here is the trailer for those of you interested:

The rest of the films he listed in alphabetical order and they go like this:
Anything Else
Audition
Blade
Boogie Nights
Dazed & Confused
Dogville
Fight Club
Friday
The Host
The Insider
Joint Security Area
Lost In Translation
The Matrix
Memories of Murder
Police Story 3
Shaun of the Dead
Speed
Team America
Unbreakable

His comments on The Matrix and it’s rank are interesting and he does give a little insight into why he picked some of the films. So yeah, what do you guys think of the list? Is there stuff on there you would of never thought you’d see on a Tarantino list?

  1. Whoa. It's strangely hypnotic watching this guy talk. I was sure I wouldn't last the whole video, but something about his manner of speaking lulled me into compliance.

I don't really have an opinion on the list, except to say fuck yeah to "Dazed & Confused."

    1. He does a certain, everyday nerd-style of talking that lures you in.

Still have yet to see Linklater's "Dazed and Confused". One of these days…

  2. If only you knew someone who has it on DVD.

Unrelated: I like the new comment set up. The gold shimmer that appears when a comment is approving is magical.

    1. No, if only I knew someone who has it on BluRay. I'm officially a BR snob and refuse to see anything in standard definition any more. HD FTW!

Thanks! I too was mesmerized by the golden shower you get after every comment. That was all Bryan Harley: he wanted to give everyone of our commenters a golden shower…. of love. Wadda guy…

  3. Dude, I gotta say I agree with QT when he says if there's any movie he wished he made, he wished it was Battle Royale. Just the premise alone had me slavering some…I dunno, when'd it hit? Seven-ish years ago? (I'm too lazy to Wiki. Hey Roque, do you still got my VCD of that shit?) The film was bonkers, amazing good fun. Ah, I need to go watch it. Shoulda thought to do a Hey have you seen…? about that one…

    1. Yeah, it was about 7 years ago when it dropped. I'm pretty sure I gave that VCD back, too. Plus, nowadays you can find that on any ol' site! I wonder if it'll ever get a BluRay release?

  4. this man is a man, and ive almost seen all the foreign movies he's mentioned. if we both lived in the neighborhood we would be bullshitting together in the background
