Dat Comic: Wolverine #71

wolverine_71I spend more money on comics every week than almost anything I buy (except for alcohol as of late) and I find it tragic that I haven’t done any write up’s on my weekly fix I get down at Heroes. Well this changes starting this week as I will review one comic from my stash every week. And we’ll start it off with the latest issue of scribe Mark Millar’s Old Man Logan storyline which takes place 50 years into the future after all the villians on earth teamed up and killed off most of the superheroes leaving a world left to be run by the bad guys. But not all the good guys are gone, they’ve just retired. And that’s where Logan comes in. The former X-Men member has not popped his claws since that faithful day and is now a struggling farmer in Sacramento with his wife & children. Yeah, I know what your thinking: What good is a Wolverine story if he’s gone all pussy on us? But oh it’s good! Now the story is in it’s 6th issue and, at least for me, this is the best storyline going on right now in comicdom. Sure, the artwork from Steve McNiven is always fucken awesome but there’s the underlying story. A few months ago, Millar told us that his stories as of late are all connected in some way: 1984, Wanted, Kick-Ass, Fantastic Four & Old Man Logan. He’s revealed some of the crossovers but the fun part for me is trying to figure out how they all connect (obviosuly, the villians teaming up to kill superheroes theme is akin to that of Wanted) and that keeps me enthralled. I’d suggest you get on board now as the story comes to an end and finding back issues might be a little hard right now but if you do, I guarantee when you find out why Logan refuses to pop his claws, it will leave you in such an “Oh shit” moment that’ll make it all worth it. Now that wasn’t much a review I guess but rather a recommendation that even if your just a slight Wolverine fan, give this book a chance and let the Millar/McNiven team paint you a pretty picture.

  1. That cover is freakin’ amazing and I can’t even imagine how it looks without the ink and digital paint. I can already imagine what’s coming when Logan recovers from the bullet spray. SNIKT! Peace biatch!!
