So after 20 or so years and a serious update to television technologies, The Simpsons has received a proper upgrade with high definition visuals, proper aspect ratio and an update with tons of easter eggs for the hard core. I think it was a great upgrade but I’m sure there will be purists out there that are lamenting the death of the old title sequence. What do you guys think? Thanks to Bryan for the heads up!
The Simpsons has been dead to me for many years now. But the new opening sequence looks good. It retained the core of the original, and I like it. But the part at the end with the couch demonstrates how stupid the series has become. It used to be a hilarious sitcom that happened to be animated. Now it’s a cartoon. Matt Groening, I really love what you’ve done with the show. In case you can’t tell, I’m being sarcastic. Enjoy your filthy mounds of money; and you smell like an elephant’s butt! And so forth.
I thought the movie was hella entertaining, myself.
HD is worth every cent.
If there wasn’t a gazzlion plays of the old opening sequence I would be pissed at the change. But, this new one is cool and I always love nods to hardcore fans. I like, I like.
i thought it was a nice little change. maybe i’m wrong, but i didn’t think this was like their new, going to stay, intro to the show. i just thought it was another gimmicky one they were doing to grab some buzz for the hd switch.
and, i’m with the fresnan, it’s not like they haven’t varied the opening tons before.
finally, although the simpsons isn’t the same show that it originally was, i think that they’ve done a decent enough job in the last few seasons to make it worth watching, and humorous, too.
I should qualify my statement, too. I haven’t seen the movie or seen any episodes in the last few seasons. I stopped watching regularly probably seven or eight years ago, but caught a few newer episodes here and there. I wasn’t impressed. It’s possible the quality has improved since, but I’m too proud and resentful to take another look. In some ways, I’m glad when they prematurely cancel an amazing show like Arrested Development. Although we would have loved to see more episodes, at least with its cancellation, we never have to deal with it sucking: we’re left with this perfect 3-season gem; not a bad episode in the bunch. (This, incidentally, is why I’m slightly opposed to an AD movie; I don’t want them to eff up this perfect universe.) OK, I’ll get off my antibacterial cleansing gel box.
