Random Goodness: David Fincher’s “Fate” Nike Commercial

David Fincher’s background is in commercials so when we see him doing these projects, you can always expect some awesome visuals. And he comes through on that promise in this commercial for Nike where he tells the stories of LaDainian Tomlinson and Troy Polamalu as their fates are litteraly born & then collide on the football field PLUS he blesses the audience with the awesome remix of Ennio Marricone’s L´Estasi Dell´Oro (translated as “The Ecstacy Of Gold”) from The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. I’ve been bumping that song for a while and it awesome to see what other universes are created when you take something that you’ve already defined a certain way and totally see it work to a different perspective. And it worked wonderfully, I think.

  1. One, that’s a sweet song. I totally dig it.

    Two, also a great commercial.

I sometimes wonder if the people that make General Auto insurance commercials know that they should be aspiring to something greater.

  2. Agreed. How can you see something like this, exploding with creativity & life, and still decide to go with the lower common denominator when dealing with advertising. It would be interesting to see the numbers on which type of advertising translates to better sales numbers.
