Free nerd music: chiptune Wu-Tang and “Moon” themed hip-hop

It’s Friday so why not start off the weekend with some new, free music!? This week, I came across these two albums from some upstarts on the internet with some heavy nerd roots. First we’ve got Saftey Words with “The Ghostfaced Pixels”, a mixtape that takes some classic Wu-Tang hits and laces them over some chiptune beats. Video game classic sounds permeate the entire mixtape and will certainly be a throw back for anyone who was a fan of Nintendo back in the days. Not for everyone but the when the blend works, it works pretty well. You can download the mixtape for free here. And be sure to listen to the hilarious track “The Princess Can Fly” and listen to a compelling argument for Mario Bros. 2 being the best of the series. Read on after the jump to catch another free album to round out your Friday tunes.Next up we have an EP from Richard Rich & Max Tannone called “Selene” which features samples from Clint Mansell’s score for “Moon”, the Duncan Jones directed film. The 5-track EP has some impressive production, even if the lyrics I found a little lacking. Pretty entertaining over all and if you were a fan of the film or Mansell’s work, certainly a can’t-miss. But don’t take my word for it, head on over here to download it for free!
