Hype all over the internets today for this trailer for a video game called “Dead Island” (called by developer TechLand as “first-person zombie-slasher/action-RPG”) which have some people hailing it as the best video game trailer of 2011… heck some have even gone so far to say it’s the best trailer of 2011 PERIOD! I found it compelling but to be honest, I’m burnt out on the zombie genre but that didn’t stop me from posting the visually impressive trailer here. It was well done and gripping but without showing what the actual gameplay looks like, I’m not gonna get hyped up over pre-rendered cinematics. That came and bit me in the ass once already this generation. Also, the good folks over at G4 have added greatly enhanced the trailer by adding some fun music and sound FX and turned the solemn trailer into laughs for all involved. Peep it after the break but let us know what your think of the original trailer (and the “enhanced one as well) by leaving us a comment!
I'm in NO way a prude and I can generally accept a lot of things in games, but as a father, killing children is a line I'd rather not see crossed.
That being said, I think the construction of the trailer, with the two timelines moving in opposite directions woven together, is pretty cool. But as you said, I think the whole zombie thing is overdone, and I think the cliché needs to take a looooong break from pop culture.
Sadly, we only have a long line of zombie related material coming our way from all media angles.
And zombie kid ain't real no more, Jake. Best to put it down… ya prude :)
