Every Friday I’ll post a Fresno pic that I find interesting for any number of reasons
Ah, the Radin and Kamp Building. Yet another great downtown building that sits vacant. It once housed the popular Radin and Kamp Department Store, the Famous Department Store, and J.C. Penney. If you can believe it, the original land was purchased for only $375 way back in 1874.
Today the building is owned by Raffin Cohen (a principal partner in Galaxy Commercial Holdings out of LA), and since 2005 his plans have been to convert the floor level into retail and the rest into The Ball Park Lofts, 66 apartments with a health club and roof-top garden with a view of Grizzlies Stadium. But it’s so easy to make things sound good on paper. In January of this year the City of Fresno took the developer to court to force them to maintain the deteriorating building. Yeah. Not sure what’s happened since, but it doesn’t look like much. (click above to view the full photo)
$375?! I wonder how much that would translate to now. I bet you it’s still hella cheap. Thanks for kicking down the local knowledge!
