Other than the prospect of ridingĀ Victor Von Doom’s Doom Bot-stravaganza ride at Disneyland, not too sure about how this whole deal. Okay, a little more than concerned actually. Sure, Marvel will finally have the distribution power of the House of Mouse for all their films now (although they still have to honor the deals they have with Paramount, Sony and all the other studios they’ve used) but I’m kinda worried about publishing. Will their independent lines of comic books like MAX & Icon be going away? Some of the best stuff coming from the publisher is on those “mature” lines. Only time will tell and at this point, I’m still left wondering how Marvel can sell it’s newly acquired freedom from the Hollywood studios, especially since they own so many money making IP’s. But I guess $4 billion can make anyone flinch. It’s all about the shareholders these days, after all. I’ll just step back and imagine a bright future where I finally get to see that Marvel vs. Disney fighting game published by Capcom. For the full story head on over here to Variety. What do you guys think?
I love Marvel. I love Disneyland. I don’t want to see a Spidey ride at Disneyland. Nuff said.
Don't want your chocolate & peanut butter to mix, huh? Yeah, I agree. Universal tried that Marvel themed park in Florida and that didn't go over very well, too.
i hope it doesn't muck up them actually making movies that are relatively true to the comics.
acquisitions are a part of life. VW just bought porsche. My concern is that when one company overpays for another (in this case a 25-30% premium), it's usually not a good thing. Remember the whole Daimler-Chrysler fiasco? How about AOL-Time Warner? Both cases where the buyer overpaid for the new business, resulting in higher debt payments that it can't keep up with, causing it to take money from R&D, new ideas/etc to pay off interest/debt – meaning less money for PRODUCT – the thing we all love. Yes, distribution is bound to be improved, but other then the guy who owns 37% of Marvel, who wins in this one?
is that thong?? right above my comment?
my concern is what is gonna happen to MY characters? is wolverine gonna be dulled down because disney says "yeah, we cant have a disney character cutting people up like that." Multiple man is a pedifile, Northstar is gay, they gotta go, OMG Punisher kills people!! the chances that disney waves its editorial and creative wand on these characters is high and undermines why they bought marvel in the first place, to gain that 18+yr old male demographic. ill be damned if the jonas brothers show up in the avengers movie, it'd be ok if they show up just to be killed by the avengers, and cap say "you boys were worse then hitler!"
p.s. i hate avi arad, fake ass wannabe comicgeek, i see behind your lies! u cant fool me
