UPDATE: Yeah, it’s up in HD over here at Apple. Keep an eye out for the scenes they shot in Bakersfield. Looks like those opening ones, no? Yeah, this thing looks really amazing and when I saw it in front of Quantum Of Solace this weekend it really impressed me. I think Harry Potter has some competition as Most Anticipated Film of 2009 now. Let us know what you think!
So yeah, the official HD version of this trailer will be up at 10am this morning, at which time we’ll update this post but for now, enjoy the face melting good time that is the new Star Trek trailer…..BOOTLEG STYLE!
Looks like we had the same reaction. Too bad a commenter at my place points out that the trailer tends to characterize the movie as a departure from the grand themes that are the world of Star Trek in favor of flash in the pan and gratuitous character development. We shall see.
All the action has to be a rope-a-dope move from the director. It’ll hopefully get more people into Star Trek. Honestly, though, I was never into the original series to much. The Next Generation was my cup o’ tea and that got me interested into the Star Trek lore. For me, I see this as a reimagining of the original series with TNG thinking and I’m super excited to see it all!
I don’t know. I mean, TNG, with it’s soap operatic characters and action sequences never strayed far from social commentary at worst and deep philosophical questions at best.
I am still excited about this upcoming flick. I just hope it’s not one where the moral of the story is a big all dead fish that they keep smackin’ me in the face with.
SInce it’s now an officical word, I’ll use it.
Meh.
I know it’s a reboot, but it looks too polished, too shiny, and has no heart. I know I’m being a fan boy here, but when you see the Enterprise under construction, the first thing that came to mind was why are they building a huge space ship on Earth? It’s like building a Nimitz class carrier in Iowa. I know I’m being anal.
I’ll still go see it, mostly cause I hope Simon Pegg somehow works the phrase “You got red on you” into the movie. I’ll just try to keep an open mind about it.
I really dig the trailer music. From “Children of Dune” by Brian Tyler. Good stuff.
