Twenty. That’s the number of times the name “Roque” is used in the latest film to be adapted from a comic book and although most of you won’t care about this fun fact, seeing as this was the first time I’ve ever seen a movie character rocking my real name. So besides the fact that the film is of comic book pedigree, this was the the main reason I really wanted to see this movie. Sure it’s a self-serving reason but hey, it’s cool to see one’s (obscure) name on the movie posters. But lets movie on to the rest of the film. “The Losers” is birthed from a script that is par for the course for these types of movies so don’t expect anything ground breaking but there are some pretty funny scenes, mostly all of them involving Chris Evans who really was the highlight of the film, as far as acting is concerned. I’m still not sure about the dude as Captain America but he’s just so damn likable and I have solid hopes for the guy. Jason Patric also plays the villain role with a tiny twist of humor which was pretty entertaining. Zoe Saldana & Jeffery Dean Morgan do a decent job in their roles but nothing special. Guess one shouldn’t expect much from these types of movies but I always go in hoping to be surprised. Needless to say, I was wasn’t taken aback by much in this film but as a film lover I can look past a crap script & lukewarm acting if the action sequences are done right. Unfortunately director Sylvain White really excel in this department. Some of the “cool shots” seemed really contrived and the sequences were poorly edited to the point of lameness. Although there was a shot towards the end that did get me a little excited but in a film that runs around an hour and a half, it seemed pointless at that juncture. Guess you really can’t expect John Woo-type action sequences from the guy who directed “Stomp The Yard.”
Closet “Grey’s Anatomy” fans might go watch for Jeffery Dean Morgan or “Avatar” fans for Zoe Saldana (hawt!) but unless you a hardcore action film/comic book buff whose’s first name is “Roque” then I’d recommend you catch this film at a matinee when you have a few hours to kill or just wait for the BluRay.
It was mindless fun. I wouldn't pay for it, but it was short enough that I wasn't bored (I wish Kick-Ass had been shorter).
Like you said, Chris Evans is funny. But Jason Patric is annoying. And Zoe Saldana is too skinny and frail to be taken seriously as Hot Action Girl.
What you didn't mention is that the character "Roque" pronounces his name differently than you. Name kinship fail.
Not a HORRIBLE movie by far but not anything amazing either. From now on I'm rating my movies like so:
1) AMAZING! Must watch theatrically.
2) It's cool. See it theatrically if you can or just wait for DVD.
3) I'd rather eat shit than watch this again.
That's it!
And yeah… in the end, it was best we pronounced our names differently :)
Saw it Saturday afternoon. Reasonably fun for matinee prices. I agree with both H-Mac and Roke…it's pronounced Roke, right? I liked the stop action camera work and cartoon cutaways. And, hasn't Jason Patrick always been annoying? And, what's with the deformed left hand? That's just stupid and unbelievable :)
LULZ! Best. Comment. EVAR!
And of course, it's Roke. Apparently I've had it wrong my whole life :)
