The one thing I remember the most about watching The Wizard Of Oz as a child was the color and the contrast between the real world and the land of Oz. As younglin’, to see that visual manifestation of seperation between reality & fantasy let me know that they were indeed two distinct places and provided me with the concept of what imagination could do. Fast forward to present days and that lesson is still engrained into my methods. And although I really like the film, I never really fell in love like so many others. So when Marvel announced that they were doing a reimagining of the epic story with art provided by bad ass Skottie Young, I was pretty damn excited. And so far, the book has yet to let me down. The story, albeit a little darker than I remember the original being, is great and the backstory for each of the characters works very well and I think makes them even more lovable than the ones we all know from the film. Although we’re already on issue 5 of this 8 part mini series I highly recommend you hit up your local comic shop or search online for some back issues cause this book, along with the awesome writing & superb artwork, will take you back to those days when the line between reality & fantasy wasn’t so stark.
