UPDATE (1/24/09): Did you miss the flick last weekend? Well, it’s back at the Crest Theatre this Saturday and Sunday at 3:00pm and 6:00pm. For more info, visit the Crest’s web site.
The Indian blockbuster Chandni Chowk to China, which marks Warner Bros Pictures’ first foray into the realm of Bollywood, will play at the Crest Theatre in downtown Fresno this weekend.
The film follows the story of a young cook from the Chandni Chowk district of Delhi who is mistakenly recognized as the reincarnation of an ancient Chinese warrior. And as well as being the first Bollywood film distributed by WB, it was the first Indian production to shoot in China (they filmed a huge, seven-day fight sequence on the Great Wall, seriously).
Entertainment Weekly dubs this two-and-a-half-hour flick ‘less than epic,’ giving it a D grade. BUT, it’s a first-run movie playing at an independent theater in town, so I’d say give it a whirl. Plus it’s a good excuse to check out the Crest Theatre if you haven’t before. There’s five screenings spread over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. For ticket prices and showtimes click right here. Check out the movie trailer after the jump…
The Crest Theater is located at 1170 Broadway Plaza, Fresno CA 93721.
Two awesome things here:
1. A Hollywood studio looking to expand beyond our own borders here and back some Bollywood films. (it’s kinda hard to ignore that built in audience of 10 billion)
2. That Fresno is getting these type of films, first run and at an independent theater. Freakin cool!
