Dem Trailers: Public Enemies

Michael Mann is back with his newest film and he’s brought some heavy hitters in Johnny Depp & Christian Bale with him. The film tells the true story of bank robber extraordinaire John Dillinger & the FBI’s J. Edgar Hoover’s personal mission to bring him down during the Depression. The trailer is beautifully cut & the music worked very well for me. The one LULZ moment happened during the green band before the trailer: Rated R For Gangster Violence. It just seems weird that they have to label what kind of violence we’re about to see. Crazy ass MPAA. If you need your Johnny Depp in HD, feel free to check it out over here at Apple. Let us know what you think.

  1. Very videoy! Shot with the Sony F23, and I must ask… WHY? There are better looking (and cheaper) digital cinema cameras out there.

  2. I will be there. I love Michael Mann’s work. Like most directors, he has a few hiccups along the way, but altogether solid.

  3. @Bryan: It looked pretty good. Maybe Mann just wants to add a little bit of grime to the footage as he did with Collateral. Do you know what he used for that production cause it looked digital to me?

@Vince: I agree. Collateral was amazing to me and probably my favorite of his films. I’ve always wanted to see Miami Vice but never got around to it.

  4. Don’t! Miami Vice sucked hard. That is one of the few hiccups I mentioned. Actually, it is probably his only mistake as a director, thus far. The Keep was done early in his career and I still have that one on LaserDisc.

  5. I would advice everyone to look at the source. Go on youtube and watch a miami vice episode, the film actually did it justice. Cheesy, overdramatic and fake. On a second showing it was damn good compared to regular hollywood action movies.

Michael Mann has yet to make a shitty movie.
