Steven Spielberg + J.J. Abrams. Need I say more? It’s surprising that in this day and age a film produced and directed by two major Hollywood filmmakers can be kept secret. But that’s exactly what these two gentlemen did with Super 8, nobody knew anything about it until just recently. Despite early rumors, the film has nothing to do with Cloverfield, it’s not a sequel or a prequel. But this teaser trailer certainly possesses that eerie, supernatural vibe that Abrams is popular for with LOST and Fringe, it even harkens back to some of Spielberg’s earlier works like Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The 2010 summer movie season is just kicking off, but personally, I can’t wait until next summer! Make sure to watch this trailer quick as it’s a bootleg version and will likely be pulled! You can see the real deal in theaters this weekend attached to Iron Man 2.
I was not a fan of Cloverfield, but I had to met I got a bit of a nerd chubby when I saw both Abrams and Spielberg's names attached to this. And especially if Area 51 and Wright Patterson is involved (they mentioned a base in Ohio, WP was the base where they took the alien bodies to after the crash in Roswell, NM in 1947) then this movie is right up my alley.
