When Mortal Kombat was released back in 1992 it was the craziest, bloodiest fucken thing I had ever seen. Being able to beat others up in a fighting game was nothing new but being able to rip your defeated opponents head off (spine and all) was something that destroyed all conventions when it came down to video game violence. Ever since the release of that game, there has been an outcry from people claiming that all of society’s problems come from these kind of games. I played MK and subsequently moved on to other, more violent video games and I have never personally ripped a real life person’s head off or shot a weapon at someone or beat up a hooker. In my opinion, some people seem to use video games as a scapegoat for bad parenting. But I’m not a parent and thus am not aware of what it takes to be a nurturing parent but I do know that common sense remains the same regardless of the amount of tax write-offs you have at the end of the year. Thank God that Penn & Teller are here to break it all down for me. Check out the latest episode of the duo’s awesome Showtime program called Bulshit! (I highly recommend it!) where this issue is tackled and some riveting stuff happens as it is all broken down. And the ending will get you. The episode is broken down into three videos and you can catch the rest of the half hour show after the break. Check it out, and please let us know what your thoughts are on the issue, lest I come over to your place and break your face with your keyboard. Sorry, been playing a lot of Grand Theft Auto lately. BTW, Jack Thompson is currently facing federal disbarment. Fuck Jack Thompson!
